Let's Be Real For a Minute

Man it's hard out here and I'm hurtin
Don't need no choir girl flirtin
Don't need no pastor tryna touch on kids
Telling me what I can't wear to church and
No fake cryin, a preacher lyin
Sayin God don't love me if I don't tithe
I need real Him in a real season
I need real faith in a real Jesus

Life get's hard sometimes. I think we all know it.  I think a bunch of us try to ignore it. I think a bunch of us try and manage it.  I think a bunch of us worry about it.  The world is filled with temptation.  The world is filled with sin.  The world is filled with darkness............Great start, huh?

Ask yourself this question: "Have I ever been too caught up in the day to day monotony that I have blatantly ignored what God was doing in my life that day?"

I'm gonna guess a bunch of you said no.  The only reason I say that is because, if I am totally honest, I said no.  I thought to myself that the God shaped hole in my heart was overflowing with His spirit.  Well...I'll be the first to tell you that was a pretty ignorant answer because that hole most definitely isn't always overflowing.  Should it always be?...Yeah.  Is it always?...no.

Recently, I have been thinking about how work doesn't fulfill me.  It's been a weird feeling the past few weeks.  Maybe it's a little cabin fever, maybe it's just getting boring doing the same thing every day.  I just haven't been able to relax and de-stress at work lately.  I was talking with a friend of mine and I told them that I wasn't feeling fulfilled in my job.  Well they came back with some not so easy words to hear.  They said: "...remember that a job or a girl will not give you fulfillment...there's a God shaped hole in all of us"

That was hard to hear because I didn't want to believe that I was focusing more on the things of this world then I was on Him.  In reality, life at work hasn't been the greatest because I haven't been focusing on God as much as possible.  It is something that is hard to do and it takes a conscious effort every day to choose Joy.  The lines above are from Lecrae's song Hang On off of his Church Clothes Vol. 2 album.  I was driving in the car last week when I first heard them and the ones I quoted stuck out to me.  I had to rewind the song and listen to them again.  I think they are very powerful and something we should all listen to.  Life is hard.  There are a lot of people telling us what we need to do to "fix it" and a lot of people standing in the front row, hands raised high pretending their life is amazing.  There are people that think they have all the answers.

This has been somewhat of a scatter brained post, but I want to leave you all with this:

Don't worry about your life, there's no point.  We are all broken (whether it seems like it or not) and there's only one guy out there who doesn't care.  Jesus.  So instead of worrying about whether your life is where it's supposed to be, or your job is what it's supposed to be, or you are with the person you are supposed to be with...press into God.  Pursue His word and His heart with passion.  There is a God shaped hole in all of us, make sure your tank isn't running low.  Let's seek after the real Jesus in our times of worry and questioning.  Let's have a real faith in Him and not get too caught up in the day to day monotony that we forget we belong to Him.

This passage stood out to me this week.  I always try to go back to this whenever I get too caught up in something that doesn't matter too much.

Matthew 6: 25-34
“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

“So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
